| Cores are brought up in 9-meter plastic liners that need to be removed from the core barrel. | ![]() |
| They are then brought onto the catwalk. | ![]() |
| Once on the catwalk, the actual core inside the tube is measured and 1.5-meter sections are measured out and each section is marked with a number and an up arrow. | ![]() |
| The cores are then cut. | ![]() |
| After the core is cut, caps are added to the top and bottom to prevent loss. A blue end cap is added to the top and a clear one to the bottom. | ![]() |
| Once the core has been cut, marked, and capped it is taken to the core splitting room where it is cut lengthwise into two equal halfs. One half is the working half. It is from this half that samples can be taken. The other half is the archive half. This is not sampled, but saved as an archive. | ![]() |
