LDEO Housing

Description

Presently, there are six guest rooms on the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) grounds. The guest rooms are to accommodate visitors to LDEO for short duration stays of three months or less. We discourage visitors who have children from staying in the guest rooms since several of them are in close proximity to office space.

There are four guest rooms in Lamont Hall. All are single occupancy. Three of these rooms share a bathroom; the other room has a private bath. There is a central kitchen area that is shared by all the rooms. The kitchen has a refrigerator, sink,  microwave oven, and basic kitchen equipment. For safety reasons, the kitchen does not have an open flame stove but has an electric cook top. There are two large, full bed, double occupancy rooms in the Café Annex. These rooms have their own bathrooms and share a complete kitchen (with stove) between them.

There are telephones and cable television in all the rooms for the convenience of the guests. All the above rooms are cleaned daily and have linens changed twice a week. The kitchens are also cleaned daily. All expenses with the exception of telephone use are included in the rental fee. There is washer and dryer located in the basement of Lamont Hall for use by guests.

All reservations must be made through the Housing Office by either calling Pat Temple at ext 8842 or email ptemple@admin.ldeo.columbia.edu. Reservations for guests must be made by a Lamont employee. Dates of stay, name of guest, and an account number are needed to complete a reservation. At least twenty-four hour notice is requested for any cancellations. It is at the discretion of the Housing Office to charge fees for any late cancellations.

Guests should be made aware of methods of payment before their arrival so they are not caught unaware. We accept cash, personal checks (U.S. banks only), travelers’ checks, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. We will also bill charges directly to a LDEO account. We do not bill individuals or organizations.

All questions pertaining to guest accommodations at LDEO should be directed to the Housing Office.
