International Polar Year has developed many websites to engage the broader community in the excitement of the science research and education activities that are ongoing. Explore some of these resources by following the links below.

International Polar Year - International website of the IPY Event.

US International Polar Year Site - This site features IPY activities supported by the United States government and is managed by the National Science Foundation.

USGS Educational Resources for IGY - Various USGS resources on polar research, maps, photos, fact sheets, databases. Topics Covered:

    Wildlife

Students on Ice - The ship-based journey from Churchill, Manitoba, to Iqaluit, Nunavut, will involve 70 international youth (aged 14-18yrs), as well as a team of 30 scientists, polar experts, educators, artists and environmentalists. Student participants include 17 northern aboriginial youth, as well as youth from Russia, China, India, Germany, United Kingdom, United States and Canada. The main themes of the expedition include:

  • A focus on International Polar Year priorities.
    The impacts of climate change on the Arctic region and its people.
    The role of the Arctic as a cornerstone of our planet's ecosystem.
    Inspiring future leaders and ambassadors for our planet.
