Today—thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and many dedicated friends, alumni, and staff—dozens of Lamont-Doherty scientists and graduate students are poised to revolutionize their research using academia’s largest, cleanest, safest, and most energy efficient ultra clean laboratory for geochemistry.
More than 230 of you stepped up over the past two years—sometimes with two, three or even four gifts—contributing $1.27 million to bring the Observatory 93 per cent of the way to matching the $1.36 million challenge grant from the National Institute of Science and Technology.
This final laboratory in the Gary C. Comer building greatly expands research opportunities at the Observatory. Early tests indicate that it will be the cleanest of clean labs in all of academia. Free of environmental contamination and outfitted with the most precise analytical equipment, this remarkable facility will open new frontiers for Lamont scientists, graduate and undergraduate students, and visiting researchers.
