When it comes to science, learning to ask the right question is often the key to unlocking a host of new discoveries. Every summer for the last 20 years, promising undergraduates from around the country have had the privilege of working one-on-one with world-class researchers during Lamont-Doherty's summer intern program.
Thanks to the generous support of people like you, these bright young scientific minds have had the chance to apply their creative and intellectual talents to exploring complex issues of human and environmental sustainability.
The interns you meet in this video have pursued diverse research topics such as understanding the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, finding new approaches for keeping the Hudson River clean and modeling the behavior of lava flows through infra-red camera analysis. If you haven't already, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Observatory's annual fund. Your contribution sustains programs like this, which engender the skills and curiosity the next generation will need to reach a deeper understanding of Earth systems. And that, as you know, is the reason why Lamont-Doherty is the top-ranking Earth science education program in the country today! My sincere thanks for your consideration and best wishes for the New Year. Arthur Lerner-Lam Interim Director |
