It has been a hectic short week. Applicant interviews for our recruiting campaign, continuing negotiations with NSF and a bevy of lawyers about our plans for EWING operations through 2003, final presentation to me of the results of the Remote Sensing search, introducing our new web producer, Carmen Alex, to the Observatories Associate Directors, a great afternoon with Jeffrey Sachs hearing about Art Lerner-Lam's plans for the Hazard and Risk Research Center, and later this afternoon, if all is on schedule, Congressman Elliot Engel will visit for an hour.
I am pleased to report that our biennial report, the first in about six years I think, is days away from going to press - so maybe in a month copies will be distributed widely - I think you will find it to be an excellent representation of what we do here.
As the ice grows thicker and more extensive on the river outside my window, I look forward to a weekend slightly warmer than the last.
Have a great weekend,
- Mike
