Very quickly this week, because I am trying (and failing) to finish the workshop report from the San Francisco Ocean Observations Workshop last week.

I am extremely pleased to announce the promotions of Steve Chillrud and Suzanne Carbotte to the LDEO Senior Staff. Please congratulate Steve and Suzanne the next time you meet them - they are superb scientists richly deserving this recognition of their substantial contributions to their respective fields.

And believe it or not, after all these years, and after the most thorough review and assessment of our credentials, we have been approved for membership in UCAR!

Paul Ljunggren's committee has produced a detailed and specific set of recommendations concerning the future of the Lamont warehouse - please review on

It will be discussed at next Friday's ExCom, so if you have comments please pass them to one of your ExCom representatives (if you don't know who this is, check

Believe it or not Christmas and the New Year loom large - hold the date for the Lamont Holiday Party – December 18th – a committee is being formed (inevitably) to take the lead in organizing an afternoon and evening of mindless frivolity.
