<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
There is little more to be said this
week. When George Papa died on Wednesday the Observatory lost
one of its most loyal friends. He has led the accounting and
finance services for Lamont for more than a decade and has
brought a rigor and reliability to those activities that are
unparalleled.
I believe it is important that we take
a few moments to recognize the magnitude of the contributions
that George has made to our community. Therefore we have scheduled
a short event in the Monell Auditorium at 3:30 pm next Wednesday,
December 8th at which we will remember George and talk about
how much he loved Lamont. Please attend if you are able.
The details of the Funeral Services for
George are included below. Be aware that essentially no administrative
services will be available on the Campus on Monday morning
in order that George's close colleagues can attend the funeral.
Accounting will be closed on Monday, 12/6 - contact Contracts
and Grants if your accounting request cannot be delayed until
Tuesday, 12/7.
We believe that it would be inappropriate
to hold an Institution-wide celebratory activity like the
Holiday Party so soon after this tragic event. So we have
made the difficult decision to cancel the Holiday Party this
year.
Have a peaceful weekend,
– Mike
