<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Given that I am nine thousand miles away from home, up on the northern tip of North Island New Zealand, I do not have much to report of significance to the business of the Observatory. My present environs share nothing in common with Lamont, except perhaps for an obsession with marine mammal observations, though the motivations are dramatically different.

I have been able to keep in contact with the office all week thanks to the multiple access points to the internet that this beautiful country provides, and I am happy to report that continued and important progress is being made with the plans for our new Geochemistry building.

I fly back on Monday - see you next week and have a good weekend,
