<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Last Sunday's inaugural Spring Public Lecture was an outstanding success. Maya Tolstoy spoke before an auditorium with every seat filled, and 30-40 folks watched on the televisions in the foyer - simply an excellent event.

On Monday we were pleased to host Jeff Sachs for a couple of hours mostly spent in widely ranging conversations with researchers about climate, rocks, earthquakes and the subsurface biosphere. Jeff promised to come back again in May and we will hold him to that promise!

Three days at meetings in Silver Spring Maryland (with some side trips into DC) takes a big chunk out of the week - leaving only Friday that was focused upon interviews with the two finalists for the Assistant Director for Engineering and Facilities position.

And so it is the weekend again.
