<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
I spent Tuesday in Chicago talking to Foundations
about support for the Observatory. Under Development Director
Sarah Huard's guidance, this was a very successful day, I
believe. And it was actually fun - representing the breadth
and quality of the research we do here is a privilege and
it is a compelling story, that I am confident will grow to
be irresistible to donors!
I learned a lot from an excellent meeting with
the junior research staff on Wednesday morning. Robin Robertson's
leadership in organizing these meetings has been extremely
important - Robin will be sadly missed when she leaves later
this year for her new job in Australia
Scott Vanderhoef, County Executive of Rockland
County, came by for lunch on Wednesday, and we talked of many
issues of local importance from the Tappan Zee Bridge to our
forthcoming plans for Open Day on October 1st.
It is going to be hot again this weekend, they
say - time to make a latitudanal adjustment (if not an attitudinal
one) and go to Maine.
Have a good one,
– Mike
