<>LETTER FROM
THE DIRECTOR
Sunday we had a capacity crowd, as predicted, for Lynn Sykes
excellent talk based on the
100th Anniversary
of the San Francisco Earthquake. It was followed by a well-attended
dinner with
members of Friends
of Lamont-Doherty (FOLD), Torrey Cliff Society for planned
giving, and
members of our Advisory
Board and Alumni Association Board. It was a wonderful gathering
of friends
and supporters
of LDEO.
The final talk of the Spring series (the Alumni-Public Lecture)
will be given May 21 by Lamont alumnus
John Mutter: The
Katrina Disaster: A Poor World Tragedy in a Rich Country.
All Lamont alumni,
academic and staff,
are invited to an informal alumni gathering in Monell Lower
Lobby at 2:00, followed
by the lecture
at 3:00 and reception at 4:00. Pass the word.
I am in the UK right now - combination of a family wedding
and some work (but not too much!). The
sun is shining
in North Wales - a sufficiently rare event that everyone I
pass in the street comments
upon it! Staying
in a hotel the foundations of which were first laid in 1285
is an interesting experience.
I will be back in
the office a week today.
Hope all is well,
Have a good weekend,
- Mike
