Configuring Netscape 4.7x for Authenticated SMTP: Macintosh

These instructions refer to Netscape version 4.7x running on Macintosh. They pertain ONLY to people using lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu for outgoing mail. If you are using an SMTP (outgoing mail) server provided by a non-Lamont ISP, you do not need to make these changes.

1. Select Preferences... from the Edit menu.
   
   
2. Expand the Mail & Newsgroups settings by clicking on the triangle and then select Mail Servers.
   
   
3. Look at Outgoing mail (SMTP) Server. If it has lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu, change it to lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu.
   If you are using a non-Lamont ISP's SMTP (outgoing mail) server, STOP NOW. These instructions pertain ONLY to people who have been using lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu.
   
   
4. Type your username for Outgoing mail server user name.
   
   
5. Select Always for Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages.
   
   
6. Click OK to save your changes.
   
   
7. Install the Digital Certificate.
   
   
8. Quit Netscape and then restart it.
