Configuring Netscape 6/7 for Authenticated SMTP: Macintosh

These instructions refer to Netscape version 6.2 through 7.1 running on Macintosh. They pertain ONLY to people using lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu for outgoing mail. If you are using an SMTP (outgoing mail) server provided by a non-Lamont ISP, you do not need to make these changes.

1. Select Mail & Newsgroups from the Tasks menu (Version 6.X) or the Window menu (version 7.X).
   
   
2. Select Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings from the Edit menu.
   
   
3. Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).
   
   
4. Look at Server Name. If it has lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu, change it to lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu.
   If you are using a non-Lamont ISP's SMTP (outgoing mail) server, STOP NOW. These instructions pertain ONLY to people who have been using lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu.
   
   
5. Click Use name and password.
   
   
6. Type your username (e.g., abc123) in the User Name box.
   
   
7. Click Always under Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
   
   
8. Click OK to save your changes. Then quit Netscape and restart it.
   
   
9. Install the Digital Certificate.
