INDUSTRIAL
FILTER: This image provides an enlarged
corner view of a foamlike film of nylon, a
type of membrane filter developed for industrial
uses, fabricated by Columbia chemical engineering
professor Carl Gryte. The left side shows an
enlarged detail of the paper-thin cross-section,
while the bottom of the filter is seen falling
away to the right. Its nearly round pores appear
elongated because of the oblique nature of
the view. Magnification ~ 2000 X
