LDEO/NCEER Earthquake Strong Motion Database

Welcome to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory /
National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (LDEO/NCEER)
Earthquake Strong Motion Database.
INTRODUCTION:

NCEER's Strong Motion Database, located at LDEO, primarily contains free-field earthquake strong motion recordings obtained from two sources:

  1. Joint LDEO/NCEER/USGS strong motion digital accelerograph network
Click HERE for information about the network and station locations

  2. Strong motion collection and archiving agencies such as:
National Geophysical Data Center, U.S. Geological Survey, Canadian Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a host of other agencies.

The joint LDEO/NCEER/USGS network is operated and maintained by LDEO and funded by NCEER and the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey). The database is maintained by LDEO as resources permit.

ACCESS TO STRONG MOTION DATABASE:

Access to the strong motion database is through STRONGMO, an interactive computer program with a variety of menu-driven functions to extract both PARAMETRIC and TIME-SERIES data from the relational database.

To use STRONGMO, a user connects to a computer at LDEO either over the Internet (see below) or through the phone lines via PC with a communications program and modem.

The manual, A User's Guide to STRONGMO, is available either

Now you are ready to access STRONGMO to get data.

Helpful Hints for STRONGMO users

Remember to type ctrl-b TWICE when you are changing the range of a parameter on which to search the data base.

It is a good idea to select the parameter ' record number' for each query; that way you can easily duplicate the search using 'record number' as your search criterion.

We will make every effort to be helpful. If you have questions, please contact Noel Barstow, via email:
