Acknowledgements

Funding for this project was provided under a joint effort of the US National Park Service/Gateway National Recreation Area and the Earth Institute of Columbia University. We are grateful to the National Park Service and US Park Police for providing logistics support during the field work. Initial water sampling and coring were carried out from Park Service vessels operated by C. Kurztke and M. Ringenary of NPS. Dye injection, CTD surveys and additional water sampling were conducted on board a US Park Police vessel. We gratefully acknowledge the courteous and professional assistance rendered by Sgt. Grant Arthur of the Park Police and his fellow officers and dive team, and their commanding officer, Maj. Tom Wilkens, for providing access to the Park Police facilities.

Jay Ardai, Martha Bryan, Sara Green, Jen Hoesktra, Hadas Kushnir, and Bonnie Mace assisted with data collection and sample analysis.
