Hauling Up The Core
After the core is hauled up from the ocean floor, the core rig is eased back into the cradle.
Once the rig is back in the cradle, the process used to lower the rig is reversed in order to angle the pipe alongside the ship.
Everyone works to haul the pipe alongside.
The corepipe is secured to the side in a horizontal position with a cable.
This is a closeup of the "bit" that bores through the sediment.
Once the pipe is secured alongside, it is taken apart in 10 foot lengths and the long sections of core are removed.
The sections are taken inside the ship for shipboard research.
