Dry Core Storage

Lamont Hall, the First Core Repository

Research ship

Lamont Hall

When Lamont was founded in 1949, all research was done in what had been the main residence of the beautiful Lamont estate atop Torrey Cliff. For several years, the deep-sea cores were housed in the cellar of the stately old mansion, and the beautiful panelled rooms were used as laboratories. This mansion now serves as our library and guest housing.
