The Research Vessel (R.V.) VEMA (pictured here) and the R.V. ROBERT CONRAD both sailed a million miles while transecting the world's oceans for research under the flag of Columbia University. It is
our good fortune that the VEMA and CONRAD fell under Maurice Ewing's "A
core-a-day" directive for many years.
