(Curriculum Vitae)
WHAT I DO AT LAMONT:
I run the physical
properties lab associated with the Core Repository. I do sediment analysis on
cores as well as describe them. In the lab I operate and maintain the Geotek
Multi Sensor Core Logger (including the Geoscan RGB Line Scan Camera), the
particle size analyzer (Sedigraph), the Coulometer to measure carbonate in
samples and the Pycnometer for dry bulk density analysis. We also have an X-ray
inspection system and film developer that I operate.
On occasion I talk to students of all ages, both in the Repository and outside of Lamont, about what we do here and why.

In November 1999, I was invited, along with the Geotek MSCL, on a 3-week cruise off Baja
California. The chief scientist, Dr. Lex Van Geen, wanted the MSCL so the cores
could be logged for physical properties and opened onboard. We sailed on the
R/V Melville out of Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. I was amazed at how much equipment could be packed on deck and in the lab facilities! My
initial impression was of a giant Lego set where any 'piece' could be moved to
any place on the deck! It was a thrilling experience!

March 1, 2004,
visited Nicolas Copernicus PS#25 in Jersey City, NJ to discuss what I do at
Lamont, why I do it, and why I love it! I talked with 7th grade
classes 223, 225 and 226. They were all wonderful and asked very interesting
questions that really made ME think! A big thank you to them for having me!
WHAT I DO WHEN I'M NOT AT LAMONT:
At the beginning of
2004 (January 3) I bought a house and moved to Newburgh, NY!
