This false-color radar image of Central Africa shows the Virunga Volcano chain on the borders of Rwanda, Zaire and Uganda. This area is home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The linear features near the bottom and right sides of the volcanoes are believed to be terracing where the forest has been cut back for agriculture. The image was acquired in 1994 by space shuttle Endeavour with the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR).
