Additional short cruise to fill in data gaps
|During the 2008 cruise, we had difficulty collecting all of the planned profiles because of the heavy ship traffic in the Marmara Sea. Some of the swerves in the profiles are due to maneuvers necessary to avoid other ships. The ship traffic between the Bosporus Straits and the Dardanelles connecting the Mediterranean and Black Seas has greatly increased over the last decade. In June 2010, the R/V Piri Reis returned to the Marmara Sea in conjunction with another project. With assistance from the Turkish Coast Guard, we filled in the gap (red lines) with an additional 3 days of seismic data acquisition.
