Scientific Application

The primary motivation for TRL engagement in dendroarchaological projects is to procure valuable records of past climate that might otherwise be unavailable. Timbers in old buildings represent what little remains of our nations forests prior to colonial settlement.  The tree-ring information, recovered from historical structures, can provide valuable insights into the climate and cultural history of our past.  There is a dual purpose to the role of the dendroarchaeologist that not only benefits the architectural historian, the home-owner or the preservation society but also the sciences of paleoclimatology.
