406 MHZ SARSAT Emergency Beacon Info For William Menke
When in the field, I carry an emergency beacon that can transmit on both 121.5 MHz and 406 MHz emergency frequencies.
The beacon is a "Model No. 4 Fastfind Plus PLB Morse 'P' Homer Ident" Personal Locator Beacon manufactured by McMurdo Ltd. It has Unique Identifier Number 2DD6C825BF81FE0, is registered through NOAA in the name of William H. Menke and has built-in GPS capability. The unit is said to be able to transmit for at least 24 hours, once activated. The current batteries expire in May, 2008.
I have more than 20 years of experience in field research on both land and sea and in diverse parts of the world. Rest assured that if I ever do activate this beacon that I sincerely need rescue.
