From fossil teeth to carbon traces of plants in the soil, scientists are studying how changes in climate may have influenced early human evolution in Africa. Researchers from around the world gathered for a symposium at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory on April 19-20, 2012. The workshop was organized by Peter deMenocal, a marine geologist at Lamont-Doherty and chairman of Columbia's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
