This animation of the 1997 austral winter Antarctic sea ice cover is compiled from daily SSM/I seaice images downloaded from ftp://polar.wwb.noaa.gov/pub/ice/sh.gif. See http://polar.wwb.noaa.gov/seaice/Welcome.html for a complete description of the daily analysis of the satellite data and for proper attribution of these images. The animation presented here is updated daily (or whenever I get a chance).
