SeaNet: Internet connectivity at sea and in remote sites


The first INMARSAT SeaNet effort was funded by NSF/OCE as SeaNet Lite. After signficant shore-based testing, the prototype unit (shown in lower left) was installed on the R/V Thompson of the University of Washington. It was subsequently moved to the Joides Resolution.

In the picture above, Andy Maffei of WHOI is working on software installation of the SCN in the Radio Room of the Joides Resolution prior to Leg 170.
