Lab: Flood predictions
Indroduction
St. Louis is located in the upper Mississippi River
Basin (Fig) und has been affected
by catasprhopic floods many times (see satellite images of the St Louis
area (Fig)(Fig)).Time
series plots of the dischareg rates give you an idea of the variability
of the flow rate (discharge of the Mississippi at St Louis, 1934-94 (Fig),
discharge in 1993 (Fig)). In
this lab you will make predictions about the maginitude of major floods
for this location using statistical approaches.
