Lab: NYC Ozone
concentrations - Part 2
General Problem: Why did NYC experience high ozone levels
in
the summer of 2007?
1.) Ozone reactions
- plot ozone, and its precursors (solar radiation, temperature,
various VOCs and NOx)
as a
function
of time, again in a useful way
- how does ozone concentration vary over the course of the day?
Note the
time of the ozone maximum.
- does the daily ozone maximum occur at the same time as the peak
in
solar
radiation or temperature, earlier or later (By how many hours)?
- look at the precursors of Ozone formation, NOx
and non-methane hydrocarbons in a timeseries. How do they relate to
ozone
concentrations? Do you understand the relationships?
2.) Daily maxima and averages
- Calculate the daily maxima and averages for O3, NOx,
NMHC, temp,
solar radiation, and wind speed. Look at regressions of O3
versus the
various relevant parameters.
3.) Other parameters
- look at other meterological parematers (windspeed, wind
direction, etc) and see if they show any relationships with O3
concentrations
- compare the O3 data measured at teh two stations, do they show
any differences?
- discuss the graph in
context of your expectations
