Lab: NYC Ozone
concentrations - Part 3
General Problem: Why did NYC experience high ozone levels
in
the summer of 2007?
The lab report of this module should contain
- a discussion of what parameters appear to be most important
in controlling NYC ozone concentrations in the period of interest in
2007, with a focus on the key factors NOx, NMHC, temperature, solar
radiation.
- one other aspect of the data that you find interesting (wind
data and O3 and/or NOx, relative humidity and
ozone, NOx and NMHC,
timing of emissions, wind direction and windspeed, differences between
stations in temperature or ozone...)
In your discussion of these processes, decide on the most powerful
graphs, such as time series, scatter plots, etc. Consider to focus on
the actually observed data, or maximum or average values.
If you claim that there are relationships, prove them by using the
appropriate statistical test, e.g. t-tests for comparison of O3
or
temperature data, or check for significance of the regression between
various parameters. Your report should have at least one statistical test. Cite the papers and other sources I have given you
when putting your findings into context. Try to be concise in your lab
report and look at comments I made on your previous ones.
I am in the process of getting information from the DEP about their
uncertainty of measurement, which I will post here as soon as I get it.
