Lab: Dry deposition of particulate matter in New York City
Part 3
- Download the PM summary pm_sum_2004.xls
from the web. Look at the data that you have generated, are they
correctly
represented in the spreadsheet?
- Make a bar diagram grouping
the
experiments
by observers. See the example in the spreadsheet. Use SE as error bars.
- Are there differences
between
the individual
observers for the same experiments? Look at the flux and SE data. What
can be the reason?
- Are there differences
between
the individual
experiments? Compare your experiment to the other ones you counted and
perform a t-test.
- Think about reasons why your
data were
different from the others that you picked (if there is a significant
difference?).
Consider location of the sampling site, circumstances during sampling,
and weather information or weather data that you can download from the
website.
In the lab report discuss the
question
what you could learn about the dry deposition flux of particulate
matter
in NYC from the experiments that were done by you and other students.
In
your lab report (following the guidelines, of course) discuss:
- Your own data. Where and
when
were they
obtained, are there difference between experiments and can you explanin
those differences?
- Look at the other counters
and
experiments.
Do you think other observers found similar things for the same
experiments
that you looked at? Are there interesting features in the overall data
set that you want to discuss?
