The image above combines the higher resolution (15 meter) visible and near-Infrared brightness information from the ETM+ panchromatic band with the lower resolution (30 m) brightnesses from three narrow wavebands in the visible (blue), Near Infrared (green) and Shortwave Infrared (red). The panchromatic image shows fine detail (as brightness) while the multispectral imagery shows different surface reflectances (as hues). In this image, the multispectral bands were acquired in September 1999 and the panchromatic band was acquired in January 2000 so the composite shows both autumn vegetation (green areas) and ice on the Hudson River.
