Earthquakes epicenters are plotted on topographic map of Cental Asia
Seismicity is plotted on topographic relief map showing
correlation between major tectonic features and occurrence of
earthquakes in central Asia. Seismicity west of the Hindu-Kush is
related to the Alpine-Himalayan tectonic belt (D. McKenzie), while the
seismicity in the east of Hindu-Kush is related to the active
tectonics of Tien-Shan, Tibetan Plateau and Altai Mountains.
Notice that there are aseismic regions such as Tarim Basin and
southern Caspian Sea between more active seismic belts.
