Arctic Switchyard Project

The Arctic Switchyard Project picks up the concept of a train switchyard, where "freshwater cargo" from various origin arrives in the Artic ocean, is getting re-distributed and send out on different "track" to their final destinations.  Our research will explore the circulation, variability, and driving mechanisms of the upper ocean in that “freshwater switchyard” north of the eastern Canadian Archipelago and Greenland.

The Switchyard Project is a collaborative efford between researchers from Lamont-Doherty, University of Washington, Orgeon State University and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The project started in 2004 since we have collected data annualy.
