Chapter Seven

Editor's Note

Landforms uniquely demonstrate the balance between internal and external forces acting on the earth.  Sedimentary processes such as weathering, erosion and deposition coupled with mass wasting tend to level the earth’s surface.  Mountains give testimony to the deep-rooted dynamic processes that overcome this relentless wearing down that occurs over time.  The motions of the earth’s lithosphere and the resulting deformation along with volcanism are the underpinnings of the dynamic forces building mountains.
