Curriculum Reform Survey Results
Cover letter by Nick Christie-Blick The following documents are in pdf-format and should be readable by your browser. Please note: The student identity numbers for Q 1-5 DO NOT correspond to those for Q 6-9! Survey questions: Question 1: Are you satisfied with the current DEES course offerings in each of the subdivisions? (for example: number of courses, overlap of material, class size) Question 2: If overlap is an issue, are there any courses that could be consolidated? (For example this year submarine geology and plate tectonics have been combined.) Question 3: Which 2 courses were the most valuable to you? Why? Question 4: Which 2 courses were not very useful? Why? Question 5: How could these courses had been made more worthwhile for you? (e.g. different content, teaching style, more focus given to current issues - please specify) Question 6: Should there be a set of basic courses required of all DEES students? (For example: Advanced General Geology, plus a new course on climatic and oceanographic principles with a similar format). Question 7: Alternatively, should basic requirements be tailored to each of the subdivisions of the department? Question 8: Does the total LDEO experience provide the best training for a wide range of careers? How would DEES better prepare its students for the post PH.D. world?
