The Climate Center Committee is requesting proposals for its January

for receipt of proposals is Friday, February 7th and proposers will be notified
mid-February. Information regarding the proposal format, etc. can be found
on the Climate Center web site
(www.ldeo.columbia.edu/climatecenter).
<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
I left for DC this (Friday) morning to spend the afternoon in meetings at NSF and then attend Governors meetings for JOI and CORE on Monday and Tuesday.
I am pleased to welcome our new Web Master at LDEO - Carmen Alex her first day will be Monday, January 13th. She will lead our effort to completely reinvigorate the Observatory's web page. She will be receiving her primary guidance in terms of strategies and priorities from Chris Small's Observatory-wide Web Page Advisory Committee, and she will be formally supervised out of my office by Kerstin Lehnert. We all are very aware of the significance of this task, given the importance of the web page in conveying information about us to all the many diverse constituencies who have interest in our programs and activities. This renovation project is long overdue, and will require help and support from very many of us.
Dan Vasgird from the Columbia office for the Responsible Conduct of Research will return for his second education session at 9:30 am on Wednesday, January 15th in the Monell auditorium. I encourage you all to attend. He will be presenting a number of case studies designed to increase awareness and understanding of difficult issues in ethics and integrity of academic research and education.
Have a great weekend,
- Mike
