<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
I have had a quiet week in Maine. It stopped raining on Thursday,
just in time to allow an idyllic walk around Monhegan Island,
one of those magic New England hideaways that time forgot.
The striped bass are certainly winning this season - only
four so far despite the dedication of many hours of focused
effort and the application of new exotic lure technologies
designed I am sure more to impress the frustrated fisherman
than entice the hungry fish.
I am driving home over the weekend along with a few million
other folks. It will be a busy week coming up - Barbara Ransome's
NSF proposal writing workshop on Wednesday afternoon and the
3D seismics symposium on Thursday through Saturday.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend,
- Mike
