<> LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

On Monday night at the Explorer's Club in Manhattan Peter Kelemen gave one of
the best talks I have ever heard - he linked the excitement of his travels to
extreme places together with the science of understanding the earth's interior
in a very original and compelling way. Our Development Office is working with
the Explorer's Club in (one of many efforts) to get Lamont's name into the
hallowed halls of Manhattan. So thanks to Peter for helping with this and I
hope you all get a chance to hear his talk, because I am confident that he will
be asked to give it again.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Lamont Holiday Party on Wednesday as much as I did!
Thanks again to all the many organizers - our raffle raised over $900 for the
Columbia Community Service Appeal. Thank you to all who participated and
especially to those who contributed prizes for the raffle.

If you are traveling over the Holidays, please be safe. See you in the New Year.
