 <>LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Lots of interviews this week, as well as negotiations with
post docs - trying to get this year's crop of post doc fellows
settled. Only one firm acceptance so far from Timothy Crone
(one of Will Wilcock's students at the University of Washington)
who will be working with Maya Tolstoy in MG&G.

Also, significantly, I received a letter from Ray Long this
week. After more than 40 years of service to the Observatory
Ray is going to retire - it will be in August - and he has
a retirement location well located and prepared. As the heat
of the summer wanes he will migrate south to a very special
and idyllic corner of Virginia. The question will be whether
the campus can run without him.

Needless to say word will be passed later in the spring about
plans for a suitable celebration to mark this momentous event.

I hope it does not snow over the weekend,

 Have a good one,

 - Mike
