A short report this week - I have spent most of the last two days in
meetings downtown, so have a lot of catch up to do right now.

A week from Monday (on November 12) in Galveston Texas, we will hold
a small dedication ceremony for our new research vessel, the R/V
Marcus G. Langseth. Remarks befitting the occasion will be offered,
and Mark's widow Lillian will break a bottle over the bow.

We would of course have preferred to have this ceremony in the New
York area where all our staff, family and friends could attend, but
shipyard and regulatory realities precluded that. Instead we will
hold this small ceremony now as it seems appropriate, and plan for a
larger visit when science takes the ship to the Atlantic and the New
York area.

Looking even further into the future - please note that the Lamont
Campus Holiday party, at the IBM Center as usual, will be on
Thursday December 20th.
