Configuring a Network Interface Card for LDEO network.

 

 

 

 

Windows 95/98:

           

***You may be asked for the Windows CD***

***You will want to have this on hand***

 

Click on: Start>Settings>Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double click on the Network icon.

 

 

 

In the Network window, highlight the TCP/IP protocol by clicking on it once, and then click on properties.

 

 

 

 Make sure that it is set to get IP address automatically. Then click OK.

 

 

 

 If you plan on accessing our SMB printers, you also need to install the Netbeui protocol; you can do this by clicking on “add” in the network properties window.

 

 

 

After clicking on “add”, highlight “protocol”, and click on add.

 

 

 

 Then on the left side of the new window highlight Microsoft, by clicking on it once, on the right side you should now be able to see a list of different protocols, highlight the Netbeui protocol and click ok.

 

 

 

 

 

And finally click OK in the network properties window.  It may ask for the windows CD at this point so be prepared. After restarting the computer you may notice that a windows now asks for a network password. Enter your Unix Username and Password. Then Click on Start>Run and type in \\SMB to get a list of printers.

 

 

Windows NT/2000:

 

 

                       

Click on: Start>Settings>Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double click on the Network and Dial-up connections icon.

 

 

                                                                                                              

 

 Double click on Local Area Connection, and then on properties. In the Local Area Connections Properties window, highlight the TCP/IP protocol by clicking on it once, and then click on properties down towards the bottom right of the window. Make sure that it is set to get IP address automatically. If you plan on setting up our networked printers, you should also install the Netbeui protocol. In the “Local Area Connection Properties” window, click on install.

 

 

 

In the Select Network Component Type window highlight protocol and click on Add.

 

 

 

In the Select Network Protocol window, select NetBEUI Protocol, and click on OK.

 

 

 

 

You may be asked for the Windows 2000 CD at this point. Once you are back to the Local Area Connection window, Click on close.
