Installing Digital Certificates in Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.0 for Windows

Preparation

• You may find it easier to refer to these instructions as you go along if you print them before starting the download and install process.
• If you need more guided, comprehensive step-by-step instructions, which include screen images, please print out or view Installing Digital Certificates in Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.0 for Windows. To view PDF files, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Complete both Step 1 and Step 2 to install the two certificates you need.

Step One - Install the CREN Root Certificate

Click Download the CREN Root Certificate to start the download process.

1. In the File Download window, select Open to begin the installation.
2. Click Install Certificate in the Certificate Information window.
3. Click Next in the main window of the Certificate Import Wizard.
4. Verify that the option to automatically select a certificate store is selected and then click Next.
5. Confirm that the settings you selected are correct, and then click Finish.
6. Click Yes in the pop-up window asking if you want to add the certificate to the Root Store.
7. Click OK in theCertificate Import Wizard pop-up window indicating that the import was successful.
8. Click OK to close the Certificate window.

Step Two - Install the Columbia CREN Certificate Authority

Click Download the Columbia CREN Certificate Authority to start the download process.

1. In the File Download window, select Open to begin the installation.
2. Click Install Certificate in the Certificate window.
3. Click Next in the main window of the Certificate Import Wizard.
4. Verify that the option to automatically select a certificate store is selected and then click Next.
5. Confirm that the settings you selected are correct, and then click Finish.
6. Click Yes in the pop-up window asking if you want to add the certificate to the Root Store.
7. Click OK in theCertificate Import Wizard pop-up window indicating that the import was successful.
8. Click OK to close the Certificate window.

Verify that the certificate has been added to Internet Explorer by doing the following:

1. Select Internet Options from the Tools drop-down menu.
2. Click the Content tab and then select Certificates.
3. Click the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab and scroll through the list of certificates until you locate the CREN certificate. It will be listed as Education and Research Client CA.
4. Next click the Intermediate Certificate Authorities tab and scroll through the list of certificates until you locate the Columbia CREN CA certificate. It will be listed as Columbia University in the City of New York, issued by Education and Research Corporation.
5. Click Close in the Certificates window.
6. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
