Installing Digital Certificates in Netscape 4.7x for Windows

Preparation

Complete both Step 1 and Step 2 to install the two certificates you need.

Step One - Install the CREN Root Certificate

Click Download the CREN Root Certificate to start the download process.

  1. Click Next in the New Certificate Authority window to begin the installation.
  2. Click Next again to continue with the installation.
  3. Click More Info if you wish to view the certificate details and then OK when you are done. Otherwise, just click Next.
  4. Select the option Accept this Certificate Authority for Certifying network sites. Click Next.
  5. On the next screen you can choose whether you want Netscape to warn you before sending/receiving any information from sites certified by the certificate. Make your choice and click Next.
  6. Enter CREN for the name of the certificate. Click Finish.

Step Two - Install the Columbia CREN Certificate Authority

Click Download the Columbia CREN Certificate Authority to start the download process.

  1. Click Next at the New Certificate Authority window to begin the installation.
  2. Click Next to accept the certificate.
  3. Click More Info if you wish to view the certificate details and then OK when you are done. Otherwise, just click Next.
  4. Select the option Accept this Certificate Authority for Certifying network sites. Click Next.
  5. On the next screen you can choose whether you want Netscape to warn you before sending/receiving any information from sites certified by the certificate. Make your choice and click Next.
  6. Enter Columbia-CREN-CA for the name of the certificate and click Finish.

Verify that the certificate has been added to Netscape by doing the following:

  1. Click the Security button in the toolbar and then click Signers from the Certificates list.
  2. Scroll through the list to locate the CREN and the Columbia-CREN-CA certificates.
  3. Click OK.
