Observatory Mission Related / Personal Web Pages
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory’s Web site includes both Observatory mission related pages and personal pages.
Personal Web Pages (www.ldeo.columbia.edu/~username)
Personal Web pages are individual web pages sponsored and maintained solely by students or by members of the Observatory faculty or staff but that are not directly connected with LDEO's mission. LDEO is not responsible for personal pages. The Observatory reserves the right, however, to remove from any LDEO Web server, any page or link in violation of the law or Observatory policies.
The following disclaimer should appear on all personal web pages:
The views and opinions expressed in these pages are strictly those of [the page author]. The content of these pages has not been reviewed or approved by LDEO.
Example:
http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/~tolstoy/
Observatory Web Pages (www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/projectname)
These are web pages that contain official Observatory information or are directly connected with the Observatory's mission. These pages are physically located on LDEO's main web
server and may be supported by the web team.
Depending
on the type of project the site is about you will find it
in one of the following places:
Projects
& Initiatives:
www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/filename
Example:
http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/div/ocp/drought/
Databases
& Repositories:
www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/db/filename
Example:
http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/data/bio_info/bioinfo.html
Facilities:
www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/fac/filename
Example:
http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/fac/isotopelab
Exceptions
to this occure when one project falls under more than one
category. In this case, the page will likely live under Projects
& Initiatives and be linked to from the other categories.
In addition, pages or sites may have external URLs in which
case they will not conform to this scheme, either.
We are currently
working on providing the division DA's with easy templates
that will allow each (funded) research project to have at
least one page which highlights the project name, the PI(s),
and a summary of the research conducted. These research pages
will live on the division directories until they can be upgraded
to the larger project pages. |
