Abstract:

New field investigations of the Achenheim sequence (Alsace, France) allow the characterization of variation of the magnetic susceptibility over almost the whole of the last climatic cycle, i.e. the last 128 ka BP. Correlations with the marine isotope stages and other loess sequences are proposed based on the magnetic signal. These correlations disagree with the previous chronological interpretation of the base of the Upper Pleistocene at Achenheim. The new interpretation, based on a high resolution analysis of MS, is however in better agreement with the interpretation of the fluctuation of other global palaeoclimatic signals.
