Abstract:

The study of a new mollusc sequence at Verrieres (Seine Valley, France) allowed, by comparison with mollusc analyses in Burgundy, the reliability of the mollusc response to the climatic variations to be tested over a short time span. Younger Dryas, Preboreal and Boreal are characterized by particular associations in which, some species live today in northern Europe, and have a climatic index role. The climatic variations obtained in Verrieres, by correspondence analysis of the malacofaunas, agree with those from synthetic pollen curves and from the tree-line. These results confirm the good quality of the climatic record provided by malacofaunas.
