The "Bridging the Poles" workshop* of June of 2004 brought educators, scientists and media specialists together to focus on building stronger partnerships between Arctic and Antarctic communities, and between education and polar research. The workshop goals were to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and leaders, and engage and educate the general public. The report and this website identify strategies that enable polar scientists to conduct meaningful education and outreach, and educators to include polar research in their classrooms and outreach activities. It is hoped that this resource will be useful in developing future directions for polar education, and will be used to maximize the educational impact of the International Polar Year beginning in 2007.
