Biological Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Biogeochemistry, Marine Biology
My interdisciplinary graduate research project addresses the impacts of regional climate change on planktonic microorganisms in coastal marine ecosystems. Using integrated laboratory experiments and field studies, I examine the coupled biological and chemical changes in marine ecosystems as a result of increased anthropogenic climate change. Much of my research focuses on the interactive effects of ocean acidification and other chemical stressors on the growth and physiology of planktonic organisms. I also measure dissolved thorium isotopes in seawater to determine fluxes of atmospheric dust – a major source of iron for phytoplankton – in surface waters of the Indian Ocean.
